The Federal Reserve’s Federal Open Market Committee holds eight scheduled meetings a year. The last 2026 meeting is December 8–9, and the 2027 schedule starts with January 26–27. Each rate decision is released at 2:00 p.m. Eastern time on the second day of the meeting.
The dates below come from the Fed’s official meeting calendar, last updated October 28, 2026. The Fed says each date is tentative until the committee confirms it at the meeting before. It can also hold unscheduled meetings when needed. This page will stay accurate as long as the official calendar does not change.

The Fed has also scheduled a two-day meeting for January 25–26, 2028. Committee membership changes at the first scheduled meeting of each year, so the January meeting brings a new set of voting regional Fed presidents.
How many Fed meetings are there per year?
There are eight scheduled meetings, about six or seven weeks apart, and each lasts two days. The committee can hold extra meetings or vote by notation outside the calendar. In August 2025, for example, it used a notation vote to approve its revised Statement on Longer-Run Goals and Monetary Policy Strategy. Four of the eight meetings each year, in March, June, September and December, come with economic projections.
What time is the Fed announcement?
The policy statement and an implementation note come out at 2:00 p.m. Eastern time on the final day of the meeting. The statement gives the target range for the federal funds rate, the committee’s view of the economy and the vote, including the names of any dissenters. The implementation note sets the administered rates that put the decision into effect, such as the interest rate paid on reserve balances. The chair’s press conference follows the statement, and the Fed’s calendar lists one for every 2026 meeting. On projection meetings, the projection materials are released alongside the statement.
Minutes of each scheduled meeting are released three weeks after the decision. Under that rule, the minutes of the October 27–28 meeting are due around November 18, 2026.
Is there a Fed meeting today?
Check the date against the lists above. If it is the first day of a meeting, nothing is announced. Decisions come only at 2:00 p.m. Eastern on the second day, which in 2026 and 2027 always falls on a Wednesday. Fed officials also give speeches between meetings, but these are not rate decisions.
Where do rates stand now? (as of November 6, 2026)
At its October 27–28 meeting the committee kept the federal funds target range at 3.75 to 4 percent by a 10–2 vote. Governor Lisa D. Cook and Cleveland Fed President Beth M. Hammack dissented because they wanted a quarter-point increase. The Fed kept the interest rate on reserve balances at 3.90 percent and the primary credit rate at 4.0 percent. Federal Reserve data show the effective federal funds rate at 3.88 percent through November 4.
“Inflation remains elevated. The accumulation of more information will help the Committee determine the policy stance appropriate to ensure a timely return of inflation to the Committee’s 2 percent goal. The Committee will deliver price stability.”
The September projections show a committee leaning toward higher rates. The median projection for the federal funds rate at the end of 2026 was 4.1 percent, up from 3.8 percent in June. In the dot plot, 16 of 18 participants placed the year-end midpoint above the current 3.875 percent: 12 at 4.125 percent and four at 4.375 percent. With October’s meeting over, December is the only meeting left this year where such a move could happen. Officials projected PCE inflation of 3.7 percent for 2026 and core PCE inflation of 3.4 percent.
The economic data have pointed the same way. Consumer prices rose 4.0 percent in the year to September, up from 2.8 percent in January, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data. The unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in September. Since the October meeting, Hammack has favored a gradual path of rate increases to bring inflation down, according to Reuters.
Bond yields show that investors expect rates to stay high. The 2-year Treasury yield was 4.58 percent on November 4, about 70 basis points above the effective fed funds rate, though it is down from 4.88 percent at the end of September. As of the close on November 5, the 13-week Treasury bill yield was 3.99 percent and the 10-year Treasury yield was 4.84 percent.

What should you watch before the December meeting?
These scheduled releases come before the December 9 decision. Bureau of Labor Statistics data are released at 8:30 a.m. Eastern.
- November 6: October jobs report (BLS)
- November 10: October consumer price index (BLS)
- Around November 18: minutes of the October 27–28 FOMC meeting
- December 4: November jobs report (BLS)
